Mere Objects: pieces of a letter & an image of daffodils -- a traditional 10th anniversary gift.
Raised in a sheltered religious community, this survivor was told little about sex and nothing about consent. When a boyfriend assaulted her in her late teens, she felt it was wrong, but could not name what had happened.
After 10 years (and much learning and un-learning) she writes to her teenage self, "I admire you, and I love that I come from you... I will keep fighting this good fight that you so bravely began. It is worth it, you are worth it. I love you."
I am reminded of the Scripture, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." May you find freedom in the speaking of truth.
